Neopuff Question

Published

Hello again,

Ok so i think ive finally got the hang of checking a neopuff and checking the pip and peep but keep getting confused with how to set the maximum pressure. Its driving me nuts because i keep turning the wrong nozzle and it goes out of sync. Ive been told that setting the max pressure is important in case of emergency. I was shown today but it was so quick that i couldnt grasp it properly. Does anyone have a neopuff guide even a youtube link or could explain it in really basic terms

If you couldn't grasp it, why didn't you ask the person to show you again, more slowly? We're talking about breathing here, the second most important component of sustaining a life (the first being, obviously, airway). If your baby is apnoeic, you absolutely need to know how to set your Neopuff so as to effectively ventilate them without using such high pressure that you blow a pneumothorax.

I did ask again but we were extremely busy as a unit so we didn't have the chance to go through it again hence why I am asking for a user manual guide. I asked another nurse and she said she would come and show me but didn't have time. That's why i am trying to learn for myself

Ive just viewed this video on using the neopuff, and this man has explained how to use it really well. I already know how to set the PEEP by adjusting the rotating white valve and that should be at around 4-5 and no greater. I know how to set the PIP to 20 and I always check this by occluding the t piece and turning on the oxygen to around 8 litres and checking the pressures.

What I find a bit confusing after doing this is checking the maximum pressure relief because in an emergency they may wish for the PIP to be greater than 20 so they may want it to be on 30.

I have just watched this which I have found to be helpful

and also read this: Respiratory Therapy Cave: Everything you need to know about the Neopuff

I am definitely going to go through this again when I am back on and will find someone who has the time to spare. I tend to learn visually really from demonstration. The above video is very useful and as I have said I know how to check the PIP by occluding t piece and the PEEP, it was more to do with the maximum pressure relief setting.
