What do you think? It is manufactured as a suppository so that's a recognized route of administration.
What else is there to know about this pt?
thanks for your reply.. i really appreciated it. i was thinking i did the wrong decision to ask the Gp to chart sup. the patient is palliative care with unstageable pressure injury which is 14cm in L and 9cm in W located in sacrum.. im a new nurse in the wrokplace so im a bit between not to do this and need to do that.
Sometimes a suppository was the ONLY way I could address ANY type of pain relief (or temp control) for residents who are just barely clinging on to life.
A PEG tube or IV was not a consideration for these EOL pts, so my rational would be for general pt comfort. As long as the pt receives freq incont care checking for soiling along with general positioning (usually on the side).
There were many pts that I gave the supp to "for genl comfort" just because they seemed to be uncomfortable to me and they weren't able to tell me so otherwise. And I would chart it "for general comfort".
Any little bit of comfort care that could take an edge off that pt's deterorated condition ...
thank you very much for this... big thanks for your time..
