Needlestick

I was stuck a month ago with a syringe used for draining foley catheter balloon. I dont know if the syringe was contaminated. I was stuck even thought there was no mark or bleeding. I am scared because our little institution has no protocol for needlestick injuries. I am currently having flu-like symptoms and I remembered that incident. I am scared...So what I am asking is what laboratories should I get checked out.

I remember your original post. I'm still not sure why there was a needle involved.

Firstly, the balloon from a foley is filled with sterile water or normal saline - it normally does not even touch the patient. You have absolutely nothing to worry about.

But, to answer your questions....

Did you ever seek medical attention for your original stick through your employer?

If you're still concerned, go to your doctor's office or the health department to get tested.

Finally:

You are probably coming down with the flu.
