Need Tips! - Studying for CEN Exam

Published

I recently purchased some textbooks from the Emergency Nurse's Association and also purchased their online study program for the CEN certification. I'm studying through these resources now and I feel it's going well, but I wanted to ask those of you who have already taken the CEN exam:

Any tips?

What resources did you use to study, and what are "must have" resources you would recommend? Thanks in advance!

I found a Solheim seminar helpful.

I also answered and understood every question in the BCEN study guide. That is 750 questions. Read all the rationales including the ones for the wrong answers, and that is a lot of content. Then of course, with the book comes another 350 questions in the form of 2 practice exams, which I did not do.

Good luck

Thanks for the advice! I've watched a few of Solheim's videos and purchased the study guide as well! Sounds like I'm on the right track!

The study guide questions are similar to the test.

In addition to content, the Solheim seminar touched on test strategy.

I also used this app.

Not great in some ways- some actual errors. But, easy to knock off a few questions, and rationales include test taking strategy. For example, let's say there is a lab value you just don't know. Don't pick either extreme, pick one of the two middle choices.

I also relied heavily on Jeff Solheim's material. Mark Boswell also has a lot of freebies on YouTube - Mark Boswell - YouTube

Depending on what kind of ED you work in and the variety of patients, you'll probably find that the exam material is just a verification of what you do at work each shift. Good luck!!

I appreciate the input and advice! Definitely checking out this app!

Thanks! I'm checking out Boswell's YouTube videos! Very helpful!

I listened to some of the Boswell material, and some of Solheim's material while driving, but my main study was the online review course from ENA. Went through all the material once, took the practice tests, then took CEN. I felt very well prepared for the exam, and after taking it thought it was easier than I expected it to be.
