Need solution to grade problem.

Hi everyone! I'm totally confused and don't know what to do. I currently attend Florida International University as an undergraduate student intending to be a Nurse. Last semester I took Microbiology and failed the class with a D. In order to get into the School of Nursing you can't get a grade of C- or less in any science courses(no repeats allowed).:banghead: I don't know what to do. I talked to an advisor at my school and she said there is nothing I could do; she also said that it happens to many people and what they usually do is chang their major. I on the other hand refuse to change it; I want to be a nurse. There has to be another way in. It can't be over just because I got a failing grade in one class... or can it??? Please help! Any suggestions? It will greatly be appreciated!!!:redbeathe

If I were you, I'd look to enroll in a Comm College and work on my ADN (you'll still become an RN when all is said and done). You can retake all of the classes there, get a fresh start (AFAIK there is no, no repeats rule either), and carry on with your dream.

Thanks, I'm going to go to my nearby Comm College and see what I can do... I already have 44 credits and I don't know if they will accept with so many credits... but it's always worth a try.:rcgtku:

It doesn't matter how many credits you have. They will transfer in what they can use and you build on that. I have about 90 credits and am applying to my local CC for an ADN. I missed the cut-off for this Fall so I'm applying for next Fall 2010. I did very poorly my Freshman year in college (about 15 years ago) and have been taking classes on and off since with some improvements. But it wasn't until the last few years, when I decided to really go for nursing (previous major was hotel administration) that I really got going. My pre-req GPA jumped up to a 3.6 (I think). I got a C in Microbiology but all others are As and 1 B. Since I missed the cut-off I'm going to apply to a traditional BSN program to see if I can get in. The deadlines are earlier than the one for the CC. If I get in, it would be awesome because I would finally have a BSN. If not, I'm going for the ADN then probably skipping the BSN and going straight for an RN-MSN program. What is hurting me is that the university will look at my cumulative GPA and I barely make it to the minimum 2.5 GPA. But I'll give it a try.

Just remember - once you get your ADN you can always go back for a BSN. Now there are many good schools that offer online completion programs. Good luck!!

I agree, check out the community college, and definitely study hard this time! Good luck!
