If you're just in the process of applying for "medical programs," it's unusual you would need a physical exam right at this second. Often only once you've been admitted to a school's program will they require you to have a physical. The school you're accepted to will also provide you with the form that they want filled out by your provider. I'm curious as to what programs exactly that you're applying to that would require a physical upfront with your application.

Do any of the schools you are applying to have a clinic? It's often a much more affordable option than going through a primary care provider. I was able to schedule my physical and everything through the Wayne State Student Health Clinic and payed less than $60 for all titers, TB test, physical etc... What about your local health department?

Whenever I need a physical exam for employment, I go to an urgent care center. I use a generic health care worker physical exam form that I obtained one time and usually can get one for $75 or $100.

Before you get the exam, contact each of these programs and ask if they have a special form to record the results on. Then you won't have to go back to the place where you got the exam, if the program rejects the results form provided to you from the doctor.

And just get this done once. Take as many forms as needed and have the doctor sign them. You probably won't be charged any extra.

Thank you I will definitely do that, do anyone have place in mine thats I can go to???

Thank again for your replies:bow::yelclap:

I don't have insurance either, but recently had to get a physical for school. I went to Packard Health Clinic in Ann Arbor. I got in right away and they have a sliding scale fee -- if price is an issue for you since you are without insurance. If you don't qualify for the sliding scale fee the physical is around $150, although they price it by age.

When I needed one for nursing school I went to Concentra. The one I went to is in Novi, but there are other locations in Metro Detroit. I believe I paid around $75 at the time... I also got my titers done there.

I don't know if it would be different for a physical, but the wait time at the Concentra near me has always been ridiculous. I had to wait 2 hours to take a pre-employment drug test, which only took 2 min. itself. Some people were there much longer.

I'm surprised that it seems like so many people are having to pay out of pocket for their own physicals and drug screens before employment (though I understand incurring the costs for a school physical)! I had my whole pre-employment physical, titer checks, tb, drug screen etc provided at no cost by the hospital's occupational health center. I can't believe that so many places are forcing employees to pay for this expense out of pocket! It makes me wonder where else these employers are cutting corners-- they certainly don't sound like companies I would want to work for. How common is that practice?

Very common. The last time an employer paid for any of this for me was more than ten years ago, and as I recall it was for a government job. I've been paying for all of this stuff for years. I used to work for an employer that even made us pay for the flu shots they offered us at work.
