Need some input from WA LPN's

Hello everyone!

I've been in nursing since 1993...(in Texas until August 2006)

I recently accepted a clinic position in the Redmond/Kirkland/Bellevue area.

Upon interviewing for the position, the hiring authority offered me " $ xx.xx/ hr." based on my resume & relevant experience. She forwarded the offer letter to HR...I signed off on it / received a copy from HR on "new hire day"

Well...2nd day on the job, the hiring authority calls me into the office to inform me that "something had happened in HR" and I would not be making "$xx.xx/hr." ......but making $1.76/hr. LESS.

The explanation I was given was that HR categorized less of my work experience relevant to the position than previously...and the change was non-negotiable.

No point in crying over spilled milk...:scrying: Given the fact that I'm a 'new-hire', the offer letter, stating the wage initially agreed upon is kind of useless. There is nothing to be gained by referencing it at all.

What I'm needing to know from you long-time WA nurses is: What is considered "fair" wage for LPN's ? (so I can gauge whether or not the "revised wage" is at/above/below average.)

I worked agency back in Texas...and the pay rate was good. It was appropriate in regards to experience, clinical setting, shift, etc.

I appreciate any input WA LPN's can provide.:icon_hug:

Oh--One more detail I forgot to mention: in addition to the hourly wage issue, mandatory Union dues will make the salary from this position even less. ---The Union enrollment paperwork stated dues could be "up to $75.00 per pay period" ....so, potentially as much as $150.00/month.

I would appreciate some input. I hate to post & have it be ignored, when there are people reading the message---but unwilling to offer any insight or information.

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to reply.

Since I have only been a practicing LPN in WA state since October this year, I can just give you my short list experiences so far. Actually in fact I moved here from Dallas/Fort Worth, where I made $18.25/hr in LTC fresh out school. In WA, I was offered $22.50 at one LTC facility in Seattle, but decided to go with my current job in a SNF medicare unit which pays $19.80, after shift diff. I'll be starting PT in a hospital for about the same as my current job, after my weekend diff pay. I also applied at a Seattle clinic and they were offering $18-19. Keep in mind I have under a year of nursing experience. Hope this helps!

Situation Update

I just wanted to post an update regarding my 'problem':

After numerous phonecalls and emails, the issue with the hourly wage has been resolved.

The hiring manager has informed me that Human Resources did not have the authority to alter a pre-negotiated salary without all parties involved being informed beforehand.:nono:

Everything has been returned to the original agreement. (as it SHOULD be!)

Thanks to those that posted :thankya:

I think I know exactly who you are working for. Good to hear they kept their word, good luck and welcome to WA!

I think I know who you are working for. I worked for a hospital in the Redmond/Kirkland/Bellevue area. I didn't paid a lot but the free medical was worth it. Also I was fresh out of school so I made enough for a first job.
