Need info please!!!

Hi all travel nurses,

This is an area of nursing that I am considering...I am an LPN with 20 yrs experience...mostly geriatrics and have been contacted by several travel companies recently! ( I filled out on-line applications.) I have a few questions I hope someone will answer..

!) Obviously nurses need to be licensed in the state they are working in. Having just recently moved and transferred my license, I know what a long drawn out process this can be...it can take 8-10 weeks! How do you get around this problem. Are some of you licensed in like every state and do you do this way in advance. If I were offered an assignment say in FL, are they going to wait the 8-10 weeks it takes me????? I don't think so!

2)Can I take my hubby with me????????

3)Do they pay for your transportation to the area. What about an assignment like Hawaii(which I have been offered)??Will they pay for my flight over there and then rent me a car, or would I be on my own for transportation once I got there!

The answer to alot of your questions depends on the travel company you choose. I have been traveling for about 3 1/2 years and find that every company spends about the same money on all their travelers. The difference is how they spend it. Some companies may brag about their high wages when they don't offer private housing. Others may give you all the benefits in the world and you may br disappointed with their pay rate. Also some companies will have a licensing department to help you become licensed in the state you wish to travel.

As for licensing. Some states offer temp licensing. What this means is that the state will issue a temp license giving you the ability to temporarily practice in the state while your permanent application is being processed. Not all states do this, but it is convenient when they do. As for the other states, you have to either play the wait game or use your company's licensing department for help.

All in all, traveling has been wonderful experience for my wife and I. The experiences you have (good and bad), the people you meet, and the places you see make it so worth it.

I agree with travelboy and will only add that yes you can take your husband. My husband has been traveling with me for over a year. He takes care of the house/bills/shopping or gets a temp job wherever we are. Traveling can be a lot of fun but it is also hard to leave what is comfortable. Have a good time!

I have been on contract assignments greater than 50 miles from home through their straight staffing co. I love their weekly or daily pay I hate no direct deposit.

It basically depends on who your liason is. Your time with them is only as good as they are
