Could anyone tell me if Fresenius is a flexible company to work for re: hours and benefits? I'm considering a 40 hr/week, 8 hr shift position with a company that will soon be a Fresenius unit but they are not able to tell me much about Fresenius benefits, etc since the takeover is not yet complete. I would like to work 32 hrs/wk in the future. I've gone to the Fresenius web site but it tells me nothing. Thanks in advance.

Flexible - no.

A good company - mmm, depends.

I work for Fresenius and like them for the most part. However, I find them to be cheap on some things (supplies) but the benefits are okay.

If you want a 40-hour, 9-5 job then you definitely don't want to work for them. Your day starts at 5 a.m. and, depending on the clinic, will run either 10 hours or 15 if your clinic has a third shift.

I'm not saying that's bad though. I prefer working 4 10-hour days and the occasional Saturday to have a weekday off. The other really great thing is you never work Sunday.

The other thing I wanted to say is they are notorious for not telling you about the hours up front. I could not get my manager to commit to telling me anything about my hours before I started working for them. She would dodge the question or give me a vague answer about it. Until the day I started working I had no idea that the hours would be 5 a.m. until whenever the last patient left, and there were no exceptions. As it turns out that works out fine for me. If that doesn't work for you, you might want to consider a different job. A nurse who was hired there after me had the same experience. She was told nothing about the hours and nearly fell over when she found out what was really expected. Turns out that, like me, she loves she schedule and she's fine with it. It was just kind of a shock.

I think they do this because they're afraid if they tell you this up front no one would accept the job.
