Need help - Too many meds prescribed for ADHD??

I have a nephew that was diagnosed with ADHD at age 4 or 5. My sister left his dad shortly before that and had multiple live in boyfriends/moved around a lot and now lives off the system, jobless and depressed. Im sure that doesn't help my poor nephews attention problems but since age 5 he has been on some type of med. It started with concerta but after visiting my nephew he seemed zoned out. He just told me he was tired. I asked my sister what he was on and I am just appauled. I work with adults and even with the occasional psych pts I get they aren't on as much as he is. I would like to know from a pediatric nurse perspective if what he is on is what you encounter...

Concerta 54mg QAM

Effexor XR 37.5mg QAM

Tenex 2mg TID

Zyprexa 5mg TID

Here is the kicker - Methylin ER 10mg a 2pm ( My sister didn't even know what this was!!! RITALIN!)

Then Trazadone 75mg at night

When I read about these dosages in kids, effexor and zyprexa aren't even FDA approved for kids!!

plus he is on singulair and claritin for allergies

He just turned 13 this month and my sister said they just diagnosed him with OCD too!! Starting to keep clean all the time. Im really worried. They live in NY and I live in california so it's really difficult. I know my sister's parenting skills aren't the best and my nephew is having to pay for it. Even worse she has a 5 year old right now with a different father and started to say she thinks he has adhd - HES A NORMAL 5 YEAR OLD!!!

Im asking please please to let me know what you think about these meds.

Thank you for taking the time to read,

~seriously worried aunt

Sorry to hear about your nephew's difficulties, but also sorry that we're not able to offer medical advice... You might want to consult a pediatrician in your area and get some input on these doses and the appropriateness of them from someone with the capacity to advise you.
