Hi guys,

Long story short, I am really new to LTC. Saw this term on my 11-7 cheat sheet. Under "Treatments", it says "apply tube bands and ace wraps". I think I know what tube bands are but i need a little help. What are they? Thanks all!

Forget the cheat sheet - go look directly at the resident's orders. If it's still unclear someone needs to clarify the order.

I've seen the term "tubi grip" which is a type of elastic, netted bandage that is shaped like a tube that can easily slip over an arm or ankle/calf. In many cases, our elders' skin is very thin and the adhesive of some dressings or tape may tear the skin during removal. If you cover a wound with a nonadhesive bandage, and then slip a tubi-grip over that, there is no skin tearing. Also, tubi-grips are good to protect PICC lines on upper arms - keeps them in place when removing shirts.

ACE wraps can be applied for edematous extremities, kind of like TED hose. Seen these applied when the arms are edematous.

I agree with the previous poster, check the original order:)

They're often called "Geri sleeves." I would clarify the order and also indicate if they're to be applied to both arms or both legs (or all 4?!)

I'm asking too - are "tube bands" really geri sleeves? I know geri sleeves, but I've never heard them called "tube bands".

Still learning after all the years and now into retirement.
