Need help

Consolidation student on a med/surg floor here. I am overall improving, but not improving in the area of "critical thinking" and "prioritization". I'm often late for breaks, can't figure out what to do first, etc. I'm stuck, I'm not sure how to improve. I'm not trying to pass my licensing exam, I'm trying to be good at nursing. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

Esme, you were once qualified but now you're not? Because of new requirements? I find that so disheartening. The information you give students on this site is extremely helpful and overall awesome. For the benefit of future students who would have the privilege of having you teach them, I hope you go back to school when time permits if teaching is your passion.

With that, thanks for all the help you give us here.

You ar welcome....I love students. I love the AhHa moment when it all clicks. That moment of KNOWING. I was mentored by giving professionals who made me think for myself but taught me so much.

It is no different than hospitals now requiring nurses with YEARS of experience HAVE to get their BSN or no longer have employment. Some day they may make it a Masters to stay at the bedside. I think it sad that a profession turns it back in their most experienced population as if they are trash to be placed in the garbage....after YEARS of dedicated service.

So when I hear there is a lack of clinical instructors for programs I know there are many like me who can no longer "officially" instruct students and they will hire a new grad becasue they have a MSN and lay off/fire the BSN grad with 35 year experience...makes one wonder where it will all end and how it benefits the profession.

I love helping students and shring my expereince. I only ask that the student shows me that have

1) looked up the disease

2) give some ideas of how they (even if they are incorrect) would approach the subject/intervention/situation/plan of care that shows they have put in some effort to understand

Give me an inch I will take you a mile.
