hi
i need some advice- i just got accepted into SUNY Downstate, and they start next week. i was also waiting on pace so i called them and they were waiting for a transcript so i faxed an unoffficial one and they accepted me over the phone. so now i have to decide between the 2 before next wed- whoch is registration for suny.
here are the pros and cons-
Downstate-
pros-like 20 min by car, $10,000 cheaper
cons- starts next week and i am still finishing micro and i wont be able to spend the summer with my son (hes 2) and we would need to fina childcare husband is a fireman
Pace-
pros- starts in sept, and its only a 12 mths program (suny is 15)
cons- its $10,000 more, and i have to take the train- only 20 min but i hate the train!
Please help i dont know what to do and i dont want to make the wrong decision!!!!

Well, to tell you the truth i am waiting to here from PACE. After reading your thread I called them up in the hopes that they would tell me the good news that they told you. You're pretty lucky in my mind b/c those are the two schools I want to go to however I couldn't apply to SUNY this year for I lacked some classes. Honestly, I would chose SUNY. It seems like a better bet just by the things you listed under Pros and Cons and it's cheaper, a better school, and you can drive there. However, maybe you'll chose PACE and i'll get into it too and we will become friends. Who knows? Lemme ask you one thing is you don't mind. What were your grades like, GREs, and did they call you back or accept you in that instant. I'm so nervous and anxious. THanks a lot and congratulations!
hiii, thanks for your response!! i really want to go to Suny, however i think it is easier for me and my husband if i go to pace- i hate the train but its only 20 min. he's a fireman and hes being relocated out of his firehouse fro the summer to work somewhere else, so it'll be easier for him to make schedule changes to watch our son if he's in his own house... so i will probably go with pace... it breaks my heart b/c i tried so hard for suny- i was waitlisted and i wrote them a great letter as to y they should accept me...
anyway as for pace- i faxed my transcript over and she called later to ask me a question about the transcripts- so later i called her back to make sure everything was ok and she said she was authorized to tell me that i was accepted and my packet would be going out later that day... i think they only reason they did it was b.c i was ina bind- i told her honeslty i wanted to go there but suny accepted me and i wasnt going to miss out on it if i didnt get into pace...
my grades are really good- i have all A's and A- in my prereqs and my undregrad GPA was about a 3.8. my gre scores were not that great- 480 verbal and 460 math- i was actually preparing to take them again (whheew) and the writting i got a 5. so i am assuming they based it more on my grades!! good luck and keep me posted!!

Congratulation on being accepted to both schools. I didn't know that SUNY accelerated program was only a year. However I would take SUNY, its only a year, $10,000 less and you'll be done in May 07. If you go to Pace, you'll be done in Dec. 07, with an extra 10,000 to pay Uncle Sam. But at pace you'll have a extra $10,000 in your pocket by Dec.07.

Personally I would choose Pace-
at suny you would miss 3 summer months with son, but if Pace is shorter you would be able to see him more often, get it?
You hate the train, it may be the same distance but you will have 40 extra minutes each day to STUDY
Pace costs more, which in the end you can negotiate as part of your job offers- tuition reimbursement instead of a bonus or something
Child care is often available through the colleges, or look at the hallway posts, there is always a future teacher or other mother looking to make some more dough to finance their education and gain experience with little ones.
Food for thought, good luck, be happy
thanks so much everyone for the advice...i think i am going to choose pace- i was at the park with my son today and decided I really want the extra time with him over the summer...time with my family is more important than owing an extra $10,000 plus i dont owe any money from my 1st degree b/c i had scholarship and mommy paid the rest- so this will be the only loan i have.... so woohooo PACE here i come- lol maybe ill see some of you there in september!!!
thanks again

In Pace you'll probably work five times as hard than in Downstate...

Really...why?
I guess since it's a shorter program? Pace is 1 year and Downstate is 15 months but my guess is they cover the same things so Pace is probably a tougher program. That's just my guess.
