I'M 31 AND JUST FINISHED MY FIRST SEMESTER OF PRE REQS. MY PROBLEM IS I STILL HAVE BILLS NO MATTER HOW BAD I WANT TO GO TO SCHOOL FULL TIME, BUT EVERY STUDENT LOAN I APPLY FOR, I GET TURNED DOWN. I WORK AS A LOAN OFFICER FULL TIME RIGHT NOW AND GO TO SCHOOL PART TIME AND I HAVE NO IDEA WHY THEY ALL KEEP TURNING ME DOWN. IS IT BECAUSE I DON'T LIVE OFF MY PARENTS? OR ARE THEY ALL BASED ON NEED (SO IF I HAVE A FULL TIME JOB, I'M OUT OF LUCK)? ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I don't have any advice, but I had to write you. The best friend I have made at school is in the same situation, and I thought it was her for a minute. She is in her late 40's and she is actually my financial aid advisor, but also trying to get her nursing degree. She wants to quit, and go to school full time, but her bills make it impossible. She is always stressed from trying to do to much, and get her homework done while meeting the demands of her job, and family.
Wait...maybe I do have something for you.
You would still have to work, but it may be better than where you at.
She is trying to get a job at a hospital doing data entry, insurance, or some other entry level situation. If she is able to do this they will pay for her to go to school, and she will have a more flexible schedule because they will be willing to work with her school schedule. So this would allow you to keep the money you make (because they are paying for your school), and possibly be less stressed.
I know thats may not be the answer you were looking for, but its the best I have. I do feel for you, and I must tell you that I respect you guys so much that you are able to do what you do.

yes is hard to get finacial aid but even harder if u do live with your parents because they include there income. they are not giving it to you b/c they consider you income "to much" im sure...although it really isn't when you have bills and kids lol! its not fair... income has to be less than 30,000 for financial aid..at least at my school anyway!!!

Have you applied for FAFSA. I would go and see your financial aid counselor and see what they could do to help. I would also check into scholarships. Good Luck.
Thank You So Much, But I Already Have A Second Job At The Hospital Here, They Only Do Tuition Reimbursment And Even If I Went Full Time There It Would Only Be About Half Of What I'm Making Now. Maybe I'll Just Pray To Win The Lottery! Lol

Have you tried applying for federal student loans?? Most are need-based, but there are a few that are credit-based. So if you have good credit you'll be fine. I'd start with looking at unsubsidized Stafford loans. You probably won't qualify for subsidized (the gov't pays interest) but the unsubsidized would help you out. I think you can get $3500 your first year if you qualify.
