Hello, I am currently a lpn looking to further my education. I need a little advice on which route to take. While maintaining a house hold of 3 small children. I have at least work 24 hours a week while attending school. To get my RN. My options are:
1. Jersey college: no entrance exam. Expensive. Offers fulltime and part time schedule. Financial aid will cover cost of attendance.
2. St. Johns River state college: Required entrance exam , must receive a 90 on both math and reading. Have to pay tuition out of pocket. Offers hybrid classes and part time schedule. Tuition affordable.
3. Excelosior college: offered online classes. Have to pay out of pocket. Can move at own pace. Cpne wait time is long. I'm afraid of failing cpne.
Thank you in advance

Have you looked at #1s & #2s NCLEX pass rates? Are they accredited?

Excelsior College accepts financial aid for the course-based option. If you're looking to take exams only, yes, you would have to pay out of pocket. As for failing the CPNE, you receive a study guide that should guide your preparation, plus there are quite a few CPNE workshops available. Your fear of failing the CPNE should not carry anymore weight than the fear of failing local clinicals or any other exam.
The CPNE wait-time would be the only deterrence for me, today. But the bright side of it is that given the wait-time, there is no good reason for not being totally prepared come test day.
I may be mistaken, but isn't it a requirement that LPNs now have two years of work experience prior to being approved for their LPN-to-RN program? I'll have to check into that. I could be mistaken.
***I was mistaken. You must have 200 hours or more of work experience prior to your submission of the Verification of Healthcare Experience.
