Need some advice ...

Hi All,

So I am finishing up my BS in Healthcare Administration and want to eventually become a Nurse. I cannot start a nursing program until my husband (active military) gets out next year and we eventually settle down in one town (we move around alot).

I am going to start doing my pre-requisites online to get ahead but do you recommend going for a ASN or an accelerated BS-BSN ? I think you can complete a BS-BSN in the same amount of time as an ASN .....

If anyone can help that would be great :nuke:

If you're able, go for the accelerated BSN because, with pre-reqs done it's only a year long and you get the BSN degree. It's tough and demanding and you lots of time for study, but it's worth it.

I had a bachelor's in business, but ultimately chose to go the ASN route as I wasn't willing to commit to the time of an accelerated BSN program at this point in my life. I had heard they were very time consuming and I wasn't sure if I would need to work and go to school and wasn't ready for totally crazy in my life. The BSN program was thousands of dollars to complete; my ASN was less than $4000 total. I can go to work now, get tuition reimbursement, and complete the BSN at my own pace.

Now that I am close to getting my ASN, I plan to go back for my BSN once I am off orientation and training as a new grad. I understand that a local university offers a program that will only require 7 or 8 classes that are offered in 8-week sections. Additionally, there's also supposed to be another university that offers an online BSN. I haven't checked too closely in to either due to time constraints right now, but they're both reputable schools here in town.

To my knowledge, there's only one hospital in town that offeres a differential of .50/hour for a BSN over an ASN.

Anyway, that's why I made the choice I did. Good luck!!
