Need advice on interview for PACU

Published

Hi!

I

have an interview for a PACU position at my hospital. I have been a Med-Surg RN since out of RN school rotating days/nights. What are good interview questions to ask the manager about their PACU? Also, do you think I will love the PACU? Most people think so.. Also, what qualities or skills do you think the manager is looking for most?

Thank you so much for any tips for me.. Wish me luck!!

i would ask about call schedule, holidays, and night rotation.

also, ask about holding patients overnight, SICU borders, what kind of patients will be seen in the PACU, patient turnover time

i could probably think of more, but i am a little sleepy at the moment. pm me if you would like to know more

Agree with the previous suggestions.

Would also clarify Nurse/Patient ratio. Also, will you be pulled to other areas, ie. Pre-op?

please consider how much critical care is required to work in PACU. I work with some people who have never done critical care & not comfortable with intubated patients. It happens that the units are full & they have to roll the patient out of the OR to somewhere, they come here & stay for a while. I have done critical care for my entire career so I am A-OK with vents & IABP's, PA catheters, etc... only 4 RN's out our entire staff can do it. Ask about these things. This is worse case scenerio. who to call for help?

I am in a position that I have the MDA & CRNA & my boss on speed dial on my PACU cell phone that I carry. I am confident I can handle what gets handed to me. But that took 18+ years of work. Good luck. PACU is a good job. I like it.
