Need advice on education plan!

Published

Hello all,

I am in desperate need of some advice on my education plan!! :crying2: Here's the thing.. Before I knew for sure that I wanted to be a nurse I started working towards my Health Care Administration AA degree with University of Phoenix online. Now I REALLY want to start working on my prereqs for admission into a nursing program. So far, the only class that would transfer is ONE English class (3cr). I have already completed 30 credits (1 year) and have 30 credits left.

Basically, I am having a hard time trying to decide if I should finish with UOP or start over at a community college. The community college route would obviously be cheaper for me but in order for financial aid to pay I have to be working towards a degree (not just knocking out prereqs :(). So I could start over and attend the cc here for two years and get an associates and also complete prereqs -OR- finish up at UOP and have an associates in health care admin early next year, but still have about 5 more classes to complete prereqs. Any advice is welcome, what do you all think I should do?

Its upsetting because I was getting ready to start at Concorde, took the TEAS V exam and scored a 75%.. Not the best but it got me in. Next- they tell me on top of loans and pell grants theres still about $10k left to pay.. The best part of the conversation was fin aid giving me my options:

1. Pay $5k upfront and finance the rest..

2. Just take out a private loan for the $10k..

:sstrs:

Sorry for such a long post!!! Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!!

UofP isn't a good idea if you don't plan on using that degree. Go to community college, you might not get pell grants, but I am sure the loans that are being used to bolster the pell grant at UofP will cover the tuition costs at a CC or at least come very close.

I will say CC as well, I had my AA degree in Business many years ago, so I transferred some credits. I had to retake A&P 1,2, Micro, a history class, a Psych. class but now I got accepted. so far I spent about $1600 on all of these classes, and by the time I finish everything, it will be another $3600, that's it! Hubby making too much so I had to pay everything out of my pocket, but still, it's all still super cheap.
