2nd Degree BSN

Published

Did any of you have repeated courses, low grades, low gpa, etc. with your 1st degree but still got accepted to nursing school?

I have been accepted to one ABSN program so far (Drexel) and I just graduated with my 1st bachelors from the school I want to attend. I repeated BIO 101 and a piano class and I think in my entire 3.5 years there I got 4-5 Cs (all but one were in music classes-- I was a music major). We'll see how that history affects my potential acceptance into the ABSN program I'm waiting to hear from!

I did ABSN in 2006. My GPA from my first bachelors was 3.2. When I was looking at schools the lowest previous GPA I saw that was accepted was 2.8. Most schools require minimum of 3.0 on first degree. I can't say there are not schools accepting lower, but it is up to you to figure that out.

I got my first degree back in 2005 and finished up with a 2.8. Went back in 2009 and earned 4.0's in every nursing pre-req. The core science classes were the only classes that all of the schools looked at when determining entrance into the ABSN program where I'm at. I'm seeking my APRN currently and that's all that they are looking at as well. Nothing is being brought up about my grades in my first degree. It was a BA in Spanish by the way....

I see what you are saying..my point is if you look on a schools website who does an ABSN you will see they not only require pre reqs, but also a minimum GPA on the first degree. My school required a minimum of 3.0 on first bachelors. THEN the prereqs came into play. However there are multiple schools and they all have different requirements. And I did mine in 2006 so maybe things have changed. I have never heard of an ABSN school that did not care what your GPA was on first degree, but I am not saying it is not possible.

I was just responding to the original post that's all. But yes, there are a few schools who require a 3.0 in a first degree and then determine the rest of your resume. I thankfully never ran into that issue however as they only looked at my sciences. I never had to explain my poor grades in the interview either. I ended up in the top of my class with a 3.8 in the ABSN program though. I was too immature in my early 20's to give a rats about school..lol :)
