Hello everyone!
I wanted to give everyone some advice in regards to the NCLEX. I recently found out that I passed in 75 questions. Afterwards, I was CONVINCED I had failed misserabely. I was a mess. I just wanted to share some tips/advice. Also, everyone's exam is very different so I don't believe telling everyone the subject areas will be helpful. So here are some tips:
-take your TIME. I wish I had done this. I spent four years on an education and ran out of there in 40 minutes which made me even more concerned that I failed.
-I was offered a great job the day before but it was only going to be offered if I passed the NCLEX. Talk about pressure. I wish I didn't let that stress me out.
-read each question carefully and slowly and really take your time! I wish I had done this. There were questions I knew I got wrong just because I was so anxious. You know so much after nursing school! Use it!
-headphones. I was not able to use the noise cancelling headphones because I could hear my own heart beating so quickly which ended up making me even more nervous
- I always thought that you had to get a near perfect exam to end in 75, but that is not true. You average about a 50% ish to pass (depending on difficulty of q) I thought I had failed because a 50% in nursing school is failing, anything below and 80% was FAILING at my school! So of course I wasn't feeling awesome after that exam!
-Dont torture yourself waiting for the results. I did this. Cried and was so anxious until I had my results. One night I was able to distract myself and see friends, so I recommend doing that!
- I was a very good student and graduated at the top of my class. NCLEX finds your weakness so it is ok to feel unsure of yourself. You actually know more than you think.
-don't get a power trip or be super upset over the number of questions you take. You are not any less of nurse with 265 questions and you are not any better because you had 75.
since I did really well in school, I gave up studying the month after I graduated to relax. I did 1,300 or so UWORLD questions for 5 days before my exam and studied some lab values. With that being said, that may not work for everyone but that's what worked for me! I also had to do ATI green light to graduate from nursing school. I got a raw score of 85% with a 99% chance of passing. (This was completed during my last semester at school) Uworld my scores average 62% with high at 74% and low at 55%. On the self assessment I got a very high chance of passing. I really enjoyed UWORLD. Also, if you have made it INTO nursing school, and passed through that is a huge accomplishment that will prepare you for this exam. Nursing school gets harder every single year to be accepted into, and even in my school they raise the bar every year putting up more obstacles to pass. Only 40% of my freshman year class made it to graduation, and the rest failed. My mom (who has been a nurse for over 30 years) said she would have never passed the NCLEX/nursing school with how hard it is now. So you have not come to this point because of chance you have earned every right to that license! If you fail, please continue to follow your dream! Be persistent and resilient! And if you passed congratulations! Feel free to ask questions!
