Hello,

I just graduated LVN school and am awaiting to take the NCLEX here in California. I was wondering for those that have already taken the LVN NCLEX, if you can recommend the best preparation materials for the test? Besides reviewing over past school material, what is the best study guide or options to help prepare myself for the test? Any specific book that you can recommend, websites, practice tests, flashcards, etc?

Some of my fellow classmates are looking to pay for review sessions which consists of an instructor teaching NCLEX material to help prepare us. The session is for 2 days and costs $280.00, which is fine with me, but I want to make sure it is relevant to the test and has great success. Has anyone done this and was successful on the NCLEX?

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Well I just graduated as well in June, we had a 3 day review class, we had to pay $50 and the school paid the remainder........it was OK. There were 2 teachers total, on the first day the teacher was really good and informative, and the next 2 days.........it was like we were in class again and really felt like a waste.......they did give us a binder with all the material we need to study in the condensed form. I personally don't choose to use just that book to study. I also purchased a book and CD by Davis.......its pretty good but I too don't know if I will need more................well if you find anything keep us all posted!

Good Luck

Where in Cali are you? I graduated LVN school in June and took my NCLEX yesterday! My test cut off at 85 questions and I am being told that I probably passed! I won't be confident until I get my results in my hands. I had alot SATA and they really sucked. I had a big mixture of everything!

Hey Julee2ya,

I live in San Diego. How did you prepare for the NCLEX? I think you passed too if it shut off at 85.

I took my NCLEX in North County at Rancho Bernardo! I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed!:nurse:

I studied ALOT! I probably did about 1500 questions a week on NCLEX practice. I had 5 different programs on my computer that I did and it really helped alot! When it got down really close to my test, I really buckled down and did a big review on all the programs. I did about 1000 questions the last 2 days.

I worked threw the saunders 3rd edition, it was a hard book but i'm glad i did it. I didn't really use the book too much, just the chapters I felt needed extra help. I used the CD daily doing at least Ten, 10 question quizzez a day. I passed with 85 questions on my first try!!

Good luck!

Check out the NCLEX section of the site! Good info there too :)

I don't think anyone can really prepare you for NCLEX by giving relevant material because the exam is individualized. I did take a review course, because my job paid for it. Some people said that they had no relevant information on their exam. I guess I was fortunate, because I did, but that really is the luck of the draw. If I had to do it over again and didn't have that option, I probably would not have gone unless I took it and failed the first time. I say this because if I paid all of that money and still didn't pass, then, I wouldn't really know what else needed to be done.

I mainly used the program Cram Masters (it is alot like the NCLEX), Lippincotts, Davis and Saunders. I didn't really use the books either just the computer CD's. I am really glad that I did it too and you can never study too much. It is a MUST to do many questions to get used to the type of questions but I must say, you will feel like you never are prepared but just believe in yourself and don't second guess yourself.
