there are a lot of post on here about what people have used while studying for the nclex.. trust me the list is very extensive in regards to that, but i think it is safe to say that the most popular ones are Saunders, Kaplan, NCSBN, Mosby omg the list can go on and on.. look for what works best for u and go with it :nuke:
Thank you, list is very long but I'll start with Saunders and take it from there.....I'll sure be posting my progress....thanx again

First thing that I can add to this is to check to see how long that you approval to sit for the exam is, there is usually a limitation placed by the state that you are going thru.
Definitely do not consider registering with Pearson-Vue until you have prepared. The ATT, once issued, is only valid for 90 days for most states.
Best of luck as you prepare.
For the foreign trained nurse, who also did not have English as their primary language, always recommend the Saunder's Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN over and above everything else. They do the best job with the rationales in my opinion as well.

I think like the others, you have to se what works for you, as most mentioned, saunders is good but what makes a good review book is one that not only gives you the right answers, but the rational why the incorrect ones were incorrect. Find a book that does this and you will be far better off because you will see why you chose the wrong answer as well as the right one. I also used Mosby's review cards, they give you the rational and are easy to carry anywhere you go. WHich ever you choose to use, keep your answers on paper and grade them how well you do. Even if you only do 5 questions, grade it to see what % you got right. It is a good confidence booster and you can practically chart your progress. You can also see where your strenghts and weaknesses are to help you study more effectively. If you do well in one section and not in another... guess what you need to be studying? don't spend time on studying what you already know, it is a waste of your study time, study what you need to. The experts say you should be scoring around 75% in a number of different books to be confident in passing the NCLEX the first time. You won't know that unless you grade your questions. I know from experience it helped me and I am sure it will help you as well. Good luck and happy studying!!
Well hello again,
I am writing with my ongoing dilemma on how to prepare for nclex. Like I mentioned earlier, I'm foreign educated nurse and i just got approved to take nclex. I am starting to panic because first, I graduated long tome ago so I'm little rusty(to say at least) and second, I have no idea what to do and what to expect. OK, so I decided to start with Saunders but I'm still confused about what other books do I need, when is the best time to get them, how long will it take me to learn all, etc.etc.etc......
I live in Europe right now and amazon is my only source for books. Of course, i don't know any US nurses over here.So it's hard when you don't have anybody to discuss this topic with.I am happy to have found this site and you guys already helped me a lot.Thanx.....
Anyways, if anybody has any advice-bring it on!:nuke:
Especially as a foriegn trained nurse and one whose primary language is not English, recommend the Saunder's book only and just that one. They do the best job with the rationales and they make it easy for you to understand.
My program was originally designed for foreign trained nurses and we discovered that each of them were passing the first time.
Your choice as to what to do.
I see your problem, the professionals recommend you use about 4-5 books to review from. I liked the Mosby's review cards as mentioned before. Here in the US, they recommend doing about 100 questions a night, every day and when you score around 75-80% on the questions in various books...then your ready to take the NCLEX. Waide also is another great book but it is older and you may not be able to find it (Author is Linda Waide and Berta Roland copyright is 1998 by Chicago Review press, Inc. ISBN 1-55652-328-9) that one has the wrong answer rational as well as correct answers. I went to 2 review courses and used mosby's and Saunders to study from. I did 100+ questions a night for 2 weeks before I took the NCLEX. I was scoring around 76% and felt confident in passing which I did first time!
Good luck once again!
