If you are planning to live and work in NY, then declare NY when you apply for the NCLEX. You don't actually have to be living in NY to get a NY license, or even take the NCLEX there.

However, if you are planning to work in NY but live in another state such as NJ, CT or PA, not only will you need the NY license, you may also need to get a license from the state your home will be in. You would have to check with the BON of the state you'll be living in.

@Meriwhen i am currently working here in saudi arabia.. I am applying for my nclex exam..but i need to do cgfns..and i dont know what to do..i already have an employer..

Hey Janette23,

I'm sorry your agency hasn't been more helpful.

Have you read about the requirements on the NY BON website? NYS Nursing

You need to submit an application and all other appropriate forms to the board (NYS Nursing:Application Forms RN & LPN).

Then as a foreign nurse, it's essential to have you nursing degree evaluated. From that link above you can find information about the CGFNS. You need to purchase an order for credentials evaluation as required by the state and then submit all your documents to them. They will issue a report that will be sent to the board to determine if your degree qualifies you to practice as an RN in NY.

Once you have completed all the requirements, the BON will allow you to sit for the NCLEX. With the ATT (authorization to test), you can schedule your test at a Pearson VUE test center as you prefer. There are centers outside the US and Middle Eastern nurses usually travel to Mumbai (Testing Locations | NCSBN).

I hope this helps!

NY requires CVS from CGFNS and that needs doing before you submit application to the BON. CVS requires CGFNS to obtain all relevant documentation and on average takes approx. 6 months. I would suggest submitting application to the BON at the 4-5 month so once CGFNS send your documents the state can start processing

i just finished my online registration in CGFNS , what will gonna happen next? does they give forms for me to fill out and to submit it to my school? GUys help whats the difference between CES and CVS? Should I apply CES before CVS or no need ? NY requires CVS right? I'm so lost huhu

There should be forms in the CVS application that you download and sign then send to CGFNS. New York requires CVS so no need to get CES
