NCLEX in another state

Published

Good evening everyone,

Please, is it possible/legal to take an NCLEX exam in a different state other than the state you attended your nursing school?

Ok, I'm in Cali right now and I am planning to go to Nevada for RN and then come back to the state of california and take the NCLEX.....is this possible.

Thanks and have a lovely weekend

In my understanding, the NCLEX is a national test, so what you need to do is apply for a license in the state you want to work in. Then take the test (anywhere) and when you pass, you will get a license for the state that you applied with.

Example, I am in Alaska and graduating from an Alaska university. I am moving to Texas immediately. My plan is to apply for a Texas license, take the NCLEX in Texas, and then work in Texas. However, if I wanted to, I could take the NCLEX in Alaska before I moved.

btw, if I am wrong, somebody please tell me so I can change my plans!! :)

Go to Nevada's Board of Nursing website. There should be some kind of page there that gives you a list of things you need to do to get set up for the test. I am going to school in Iowa and will be taking the NCLEX in another state so I just went to the BON site and found the checklist of things I need to do. You will probably need to apply to the BON and also to PearsonVue or whoever does the testing in that state. Good luck!

Yes, you can do that. Generally, as long as your school is recognized by the NV Board of Nursing to issue either the ADN or BSN it will be an acceptable credential for a license in another state. In your case, best to check with CA Board of Nursing to make sure the out of state school will be acceptable. Many people have done it.

You can take the NCLEX in any state. I graduated in PA, moved to MN to take a job right across the border in WI. I took my boards in Minneapolis, but got a WI license.

thank you so much. Now,. I feel comfortable to take this huge decision
