Hi all! I'm moving to the Naples area in the next year or so and was wondering if anyone has heard of Edison State College (very cheap!!!) or Florida Gulf Coast University nursing programs and whether or not they are worth my time? I'm almost ready to enter Nursing School, just not sure how much longer I can take living in the DC area! Please lemme know if you can help me out with some info! Thanks and Happy New Year to everyone out there!!! - Jim

ANYONE? ANYONE?!

Hi Jimmy,

i'm an LPN in naples, it is a beautiful place to be. There are many options for places to work from a snf to an alf to hospice to the hospitals. Alot of my friends have gone to edison for the bridge program and have excelled. good luck and welcome to paradise when you get here!

Hi Jimmy,

I'm currently attending Edison State College and finishing up my pre-reqs for the nursing program. I hope to start in May of this year. I have been at Edison for a year now and I'm really enjoying it. Nothing bad to say about it at all. The nursing staff that I've spoken with have all been very helpful and informative about the requirements for the program and the point system used for acceptance.

If you have specific questions about Edison that I can answer let me know and I'll try to answer them. As far as FGCU goes, they had lost their accreditation for a while but they recently obtained it again. I'm sure that it is more expensive than ESC but you could go straight for your BSN with FGCU. With Edison you would get your ADN first and then your BSN.

Hope this helps you a little and like I said, let me know if you want any more specifics!

I know a couple of years ago not only did FGCU lose their accreditation but they also ranked very low , as compared to other nursing programs in the state of Florida, for their students pasing the NCLEX exams. There was only one other college that ranked lower. I work in one of the local hospitals where both FGCU and Edison college nursing students do clinicals, and I can tell you that the Edison ADN students were much more focused, prepared and knowledgeable than the FGCU BSN students ever were.. The Edison students also seemed to have more clinical time and their instructors spent more time with them on the units.

To the credit of FGCU, they were on probation (due to their prior poor passing rates) but have been released with a 10 year accred. I have been looking at both schools ad FGCU's total pass rate for the NCLEX for the last 3 quarters has exceeded Edison's. I do like the fact that you can go straight into the BSN program at FGCU but have also heard that Edison provides a little more clinical time.

Will someone please explain to me how to figure out how many points you have.. thanks

Specializes in Nursing Student - LAST YEAR!.

@jimmy- I am in ESC nursing program and its fantastic. I absolutly love the standard they hold for their students. The pass rates at all three campuses are over 96% and you will deff take pride in the college. NCH is a fabulous hospital and they offer new grad internships. Good luck with everything!

@shawn- there is a point system sheet you can get from the secretary in the nursing building.
