NANN vs. ANN

I am a NICU nurse, last night was first night off of orientation (yippee) I was wondering if most of you were members of either the National Association of Neonatal Nurses or The Academy of Neonatal Nursing, and if the memberships were worth the price. I guess I am also curious about which is the preferred organization. Thanks...

I'm not a NICU nurse yet but work in a unit down here in Florida. NANN seems to be the big winner here.

Congratulations!

Where I work, either is fine. I found both to be surprisingly expensive, but memberships count towards your raise, so I guess it all works out. Ask a manager where you work, they should know, but I have heard good things about both. And you do get journals with membership; the journals seem spot on with the types of babies we see, that's prettyhelpful.

I am a member of ANN. While it's a little pricey at $75 (tax deduction)they have a great journal, and 20 free CEU hours a year. They also have a great online bookstore and conference, and you receive discounts for being a member.

NANN is also great I hear. I know that they have a neonatal scholarship every year.

I am a member of both NANN and ANN and feel the price is very much worth the infomation, education, national conferences, and other benefits they each offer. I believe NANN is $95 and ANN is $75 each year. Both offer terrific journals which arrive every other month. Both offer CEUs (ANN gives 15 free CEUs each year). NANN has lots of national guidelines and position paters and other such information and access to NICUniversity (more free CEUs) and listservs through their website.

NANN was the first neonatal nursing organization and came into being over 30 years ago. It's journal was "Neonatal Network". About 8 years ago NANN and the publishers of "Neonatal Network" had some sort of falling out and the two separated. This is when ANN was formed and ANN continued to publish the "Neonatal Network" journal. NANN developed their own journal titled "Advances in Neonatal Care" which is published by Elsevier Publishing Company.

I love both organizations and their journals and other bonuses the offer. I can't decide between the two. They are kind of like little children who you can't show partiality over one or the other. So, like any good Mom I keep both of my "babies" visiting every other month.

I also subscribe to another journal titled, "Neonatal and Infant Nursing Reviews" which is another excellent journal with an emphasis on NICU nursing information. This journal is not associated with any nursing organization. It is a topical journal, meaning all the articles in each journal all relate to a certain subject. It comes quarterly. Love it too.

I highly suggest investing in both NANN and ANN. Why not take advantage of all of the best and most up to date information you need to take the best care you can of the little lives which depend on your knowledge so much?

I just went and looked, because I'm trying to decide what I need/want to do with professional memberships, and this is what I found:

For an RN in the US, for a 1 year membership/subscription....

NANN is $99.

ANN is $75.

NAINR is $49.

Neonatal Network is $60.

Does anyone know if this is an expense that can be deducted from our taxes?

Neonatal Network is the name of the journal you receive when you are a member of ANN. You pay $75 and you get membership + journal for 1 year.
