Multiples, multiples

We have had a high number of multiples delivered in the past month or so. Off hand, I was personally at 3 sets of twins (two sets in one week), plus we have had a few more sets of twins, and 2 sets of triplets in the past month.

We also have a couple moms on our antepartum unit that are expecting twins soon as well. Oh yes, and we have one more set of triplets out there (I think they're on antepartum now), and an early set of quads in the wings.

We do about 350-400 deliveries per month where I work - a lot of them high risk.

Anyone else have an increase in your amount of multiples recently?

Interesting that you mentioned this. I just read today that Brittany Spears is expecting twins and several entertainers have recently had twins, including Julia Roberts.

Twenty-seven years ago I had a set of twins and it was a big deal. I got lots of freebies from local businesses because I had "twins". Now its fairly common. What is up?

IVF is what's up. We sometimes joke that only underachievers have singletons anymore. We do have some natural sets of twins, but I can count on one hand the number of natural triplets and up I've seen. Unfortunately all the risks increase with more than one baby....
