too much experience to work in UK

I am a US trained NP with 26 Yrs experience in geriatrics, wounds/tissue viability, and continence now formally immigrated into UK related to husband's work transfer. The Nursing&Midwifery Council (NMC) is making it impossible for me to practice here because they demand US history (which UK Immigration already has) but to get this for them I must send fingerprints to the FBI. I've worked so long as a nurse that my ink fingerprints are no longer good enough for the FBI and digital fingerprinting is not available in the UK unless one is a criminal. Further the NMC refuses to consider any information collected by UK Immigration. Are all processes as disjointed in the UK? Isn't there a nursing shortage over here? The thing is that pay is less in the UK and cost of living is higher, so why is the approval process also made so much more dysfunctional? Is the UK trying to block US trained nurses from working in their country?

    Why would you think immigration would correspond with the country's nursing body? This doesn't happen in other countries at all especially the US and in some states it is very hard for anyone with International training to meet state requirements.

    Also unfortunately the NMC doesn't have a great repore with people registering as a nurse if trained outside the UK

    Thanks for your response. I am more saddened by the fact that my road block to practice has nothing to do with my skills as a nurse. Further, if immigration is separate from the nursing body, as is certainly logical, then why is the nursing body taking on a role related to immigration?

    You are very right, the NMC is not at all good at interacting with applicants
