Hey, are y'all out there seeing a lot of MRSA abscesses? We are seeing them constantly lately. They are sooooo bad and just full of pus. Some of us have even gotten them. We are having to culture them all and put people on 2 abx including Sulfa if possible.

I'm in South Georgia. Where are other people seeing MRSA? And what are you doing to treat it and educate people without freaking them out?

Been seeing these for years. About 90% of our "risens" are staph, mostly resistant staph. luckily of those cultured most will respond to Clinda and Bactrim.

We aren't even doing the cultures- just lance em and pass out the abx. No one gets freaked out. We just tell them to cover it while draining and that it is an infection so keep everyone else away, use good handwashing, etc, etc. We also have them follow up in a week to 10 days.

Resistance is futile--oops I mean prevalent in this area (FL panhandle) We are much more concerned with our other local bugs like vibrio.

we just got a memo from administration about MRSA VS Spider bites.

apparently ER was misdiagnosing MRSA abcesses as spider bites.

Now every abcess is cultured for MRSA.
