Moving to USA

Hi There,

I am planning on moving to Texas to live with my American boyfriend. I would like to do my NCLEX before moving there and wonder if it is possible to take this anywhere in the UK. Also, I don't want to go with an agency and would like to organise my own job in a hospital when I arrive there. I don't want to work full time (I've heard it's a 48hour week with very very little annual leave??). I would be so grateful if anyone could give me some advice on the above matters.

For a start you are aware of retrogression and that you are affected at the moment and looking at a few years unless you are at the stage of marriage to your boyfriend. Also at the moment because of retrogression many hospitals are delaying taking foreign nurses on but just means you need to keep asking hospitals in the area you want to live as they will start the process of by filing I140.

You need to apply to Texas BON and follow requirements for licensure for foreign trained nurse, you will require CES from CGFNS and depending on when you trained you may be short of hours in certain areas as training in the US covers everything. You are looking at several months process before you can sit the exam in London. Also not sure where you heard 48 hour week as mostly 3 x 12 hours shifts or 5 x 8 hour shifts depending on work and that is full time, yes annual leave is not as good as the UK.

Moved to the International forum and suggest reading on Primer to working in the US and retrogression, plus plenty of other threads on the process to read but it is a very slow process at the moment
