Moving to the USA , what now?

My husbands company is sending him to the US at the end of 2008 (for how long nobody knows). I never thought I would be moving to the USA and therefore I really don't know a thing about nursing in America . This is this is the first site I found on the Internet .

I'm a nurse for about 6 years (1 year ICU)and I still love my job but I have this horrible thought af me sitting at home and not being able to work . Is it possible for me to work in the US ? If not, well I can always start knitting. At the moment I'm just utterly confused and I hope I don't sound like an idiot.

If your husband is being transferred, you may want to start with his employer and see if their immigration attorney can co-ordinate a work visa for you as well. I would try that first before anything else at this early stage. I'm sure there are a few nurses on the forum who transferred with their husbands from Germany that may have some specific advise for you.

All depends on what type of visa your husband is going to get. If H1b then you can not work unless you go through the process yourself and can get a green card and if visas are not in retrogression at the end of 2008 then you should be able to go through the AOS route as long as you meet requirements. If it is a L1 visa then you will get a L2 and can work. I would suggest reading the sticky/thread called Primer to working in the US. You can start the process now and will need to meet the requirements for foreign trained nurse on the board of nursing state website and pass NCLEX.
