Moving to Brisbane

Published

Hi, we are hoping to move from the UK to Forest Lake, Brisbane. I am currently a RN in Accident and Emergency and would like to do the same over there. Would love to hear from anyone who has made the move or considering it. Also any info about hospitals in that area. Cheers Mandy. :balloons:

The site you need is http://www.thinknursing.com . That has all the goverment hospital positions listed. If there is not one there for A&E don't be disheartened because some of the hospitals will put you on knowing that they have someone leaving soon.

Forest Lake is southside and there is

Princess Alexandra (biggest and busiest)

Mater Private, Childrens and Adult - all three have A&E departments but the Adults and the Childrens will offer the opportunity to work in both.

Queen Elizabeth II

There are a couple of private hospitals as well but many do not run a 24 hour A&E Department.

Happy Hunting!!

Thanks for the info, I will check the hospitals out. Maybe I will go through an agent who will get me job offers. Bye for now Mandy

We don't HAVE agents that do that - unless you are talking about Careerone or something of the kind. We apply direct to the hospitals. Because there are only a handful IN Brisbane there is usually no problem.

Thankyou for that website it is great.I will also apply direct to the hospitals. There are agencies in the UK and worldwide who recruit on behalf of the hospitals, you send them a CV and they match you up with hospitals wishing to recruit.Apparently, the hospitals pay their fees for finding employees. This is the one I have emailed:

Beresford Blake Thomas

http://www.bbtworldwide.com/global/

I will see what they have to offer. I have sat at the computer for nearly two days (slept 7 hours in bed), checking out websites, hospitals, suburbs. Its all exciting. I need to go to work this afternoon, its happen as well as I will be getting pressure ulcers!! :p Bye for now Mandy

You could try Ipswich General hospital - it is a lot smaller but not a bad place to start! Not too far either from Forest lake. I came to Ipswich from UK 21yrs ago and stayed. I did Psychiatric as well as General and ended up working at Wolston Park (now called The Park). Now I work as an independent nurse around the Aged Care units in the area. There is a small private hospital in Ipswich too, but no A&E.

Agencies in the Area 'Oxley Nursing Agency' 'Northern Nursing' or 'Heather Hill' at Ipswich.

Good Luck

Thanks for that, I will take a look. I currently have 2 hospitals with A&E vacancies: The Royal Brisbane and Greenslopes, I will apply to both and see what happens. I may consider another area of nursing if necessary. What is Ipswich like? I have heard it is a little on the 'rough' side, but don't know of anyone who knows for sure. After 21 years do you ever think of living back in the UK? What do you miss, if anything. Take care bye for now, Mandy :)

Hello Mandy, I do miss the shows and the markets in London - as I worked at Kings College and The Maudsley for many years I had lots of opportunity to go the theatres and markets.

But I do not miss the weather, the crowds, and the traffic!

But the weather here in Queensland more than makes up for the loss of close cinemas and theatres. We do have some great shows now and markets.

Ipswich, well it has a bit of a reputation - but then again it is a quite small as cities go, and bad news travels in a small community. There are a lot more problems in some of the big cities both in UK and Australia.

When you come over then you should explore it - see Ipswich from the top of the water tower near the hospital!

I'll probably visit UK next year in June like I did last year, (2 weeks was enough).

Good luck with the job hunting.
