Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi, I took my NCLEX-RN exam a month ago and fail. That is a horrible feeling. I plan to retake the test, but I am having a hard time getting remotivated to study again. I don't know what to do to get remotivated. I went out and bought the saunders questions and answers book since I already had the review book. But, I having a hard time focusing. I felt that I put in my all the last time. I need to get remotivate to retake this test. I want to be a RN and I truly feel that I will be a good nurse. But, if I don't get remotivate to study to pass I am never going to get that opportunity. Any ideas on what I can to do get remotivated? :(

Personally, I can feel for you in trying to get motivated to study for the NCLEX again. When I first failed the exam, I began to get lost in the idea that perhaps nursing wasn't in the cards for me. It took me a while to get out of that mindset. Ultimately, I started thinking about nursing school, and how much I sacrificed to get through the program. I thought about mostly the frustrating things, like losing sleep over working on care plans the night before clinical, having to travel dozens of miles to the hospital sites in order to prepare for as many as 3-5 patients and constructing a detailed care plan for each of them, including listing their medications (dose, route, time, indication, drug action, adverse effects, nursing implications, etc.), I mainly think about all the hard work I put into graduating from nursing school, but also am driven by my past experiences with patients, especially the ones who said that I would be a great nurse someday. In remembering and embracing these moments, this drove me to hit the books and get back to studying. Reading a little here and there, answering 40 questions a day became routine for me. I couldn't dedicate 6-8 hours of study like some people on here, but I studied with the time that I had, and doing enjoyable things, whether it was playing videogames, watching movies, or going out for drives. I learned that doing the things you enjoy after studying refreshes your mind.

Anyway, that's what motivated me to study again. Just remember what you had to go through during nursing school and how it changed your life. You made it through those tough years, investing time, money and a solid effort to graduate and achieve your ultimate goal: to be a registered nurse. The toughest part is over and you now have one last hurdle to realize your dream! Best of luck to you with your studying. I am confident you will find a way to motivate yourself! :D

These people specialize in what you are discussing, having to retake the test. Their book focuses on YOU as a test taker and the pittfalls we encounter. Take a look, buying the book is a very good idea.

Thanks Nurse Joker for you advise. You are right I just have to reflect on how hard I work to get here. I can't let myself get overwhelm and quite. I have to dig deep and study hard and it will happen for me. Thanks and I will let you know I do.
