$10,000 a month?

I keep seeing all these Facebook advertisements for travel nurse agencies that boast travel nurses make $10,000 a month. There are always comments that shoot down that statement like, "Who are these nurses that make $10k a month?" or "Yeah right! Travelers don't make that much!" A lot of people I know who are either nurses or thinking about becoming nurses ask me all the time if I make $10,000 a month and I think that's what might be motivating them to do traveling (not that there's anything wrong with that). In all honesty I only choose assignments that pay that much or more because I have a high demand specialty so I can do that. But do regular travelers make at least $10,000 a month? Is that common?

I wouldn't use that figure routinely, but there is no doubt that even a medsurg nurse can make that much. 48 hour contracts at $45 for Fastaff plus housing gets you there.

Of course, if you are L&D or other hot specialty and picky, it is a lot easier. Pretty much bottom pay for a traveler is $40 an hour total compensation - which is $80,000 a year.

You can easily make 10k a month in fact you can make more an ex gf of mine used to do her own contracts for remote locations in Alaska and foreign countries as well as for oil rigs. It was not uncommon for her to pull in 750 dollars a day for a 12 hour shift (gross of course)

I made that much last winter working contracts in Wisconsin & Minnesota. It depends on your specialty and the need in the area.

What is your speciality if I may ask?

And good for you, that is making a KILLING!!!

It's absolutely reasonable. But you'll only find most of those rates in NorCal, NYC, or Alaska.

Last summer I made net take home $10,000 to $11,000 a month in a Neurosurgical ICU, it's definitely possible. Although I was working 50 to 60 hours a week and working with a high paying travel company (Fastaff). I'm now relaxing on the beach for less pay and only 36 hours a week. Some assignments are for the experience and some are for the dollars.

Hey OP. I think it's possible to make that much a month (after taxes) but you would have to work 60hrs/week to do it and find a very high paying job somewhere.
