MN to CT

Hello! My spouse and I are thinking about moving to CT (New Haven area) in about a year. I prefer geriatric nursing (Memory Care/Assisted Living/LTC facilities if possible), I've been an AD RN for a little over 2 years with 6 years experience as a CNA prior to becoming an RN. Most of my experience as a nurse has been as a nurse manager. I have a few questions I'm hoping someone could shed some light on.

Are there RN management positions available in the New Haven area (in MC/AL/LTC)? If so, any suggestions on where to look?

Does anyone know the average salary for an RN with a little over 2 years experience in these settings? I would love something in managment but would not think twice about working the floor as well.

I am currently licensed in MN. Is it difficult and costly to become licensed in CT? How long does it take?

Any help would be VERY much appreciated!! Thanks so much!

Hi, bobloblaw

I just moved to ct. in January. I was also in MN. not for long, but I quickly realized that nursing in Ct. was more appealing. There's more nursing opportunity in CT. I live in Waterbury, CT. it's about 30 min. from New Heaven. It's a big city and like all cities there's good and also bad things. I noticed that when i was in Minnesota that nursing jobs weren't that abundant as they are here. All I can't tell is that get the application on line to change your lic.I don't think it's that hard. You really have to search on the web. Good luck on your decision. You really don't get much replies on this ct. forum. I tried it before. I'm still taking my Nclex, so that I can't get a chunk out of the good pays here.

Thanks so much for your help! I've been checking online for jobs and haven't really found much in CT so I was getting a little worried! I appreciate your help! Good luck with NCLEX!

90 Dollars ,a copy of ur current licence, educational records, a picture, and the online form from the health department. They give u a temp first and then send u a official on once they do ur backround stuff. Easy, just pia,,,,,Good Luck!

And you have to get it notarized if I remember... I hate getting paperwork together! They renew the nursing licenses every year, and just upped the fee for RN from $50/yr to $100/yr.
