Missing PP

I worked PP nights for a while and then due to my husband's job we moved and I am now working for a health dept. I didnt realize how much I would miss the hospital and my mom's and babies! I thought I would love 8-5 mon-fri, no weekends, or holidays. I think what I miss the most is the other nurses I worked with.... I am trying to stick out atleast a few months longer in my new job, but I dont know.........

Anyone else miss women's health so much you had to go back?

I too really miss working with moms and newborns. I have worked for the past 8 years as a school nurse at a large high school. The schedule is great (7a-2p) 185 days per year. The pay is not great, and I have 4 kids soon to be going to college! I am torn because this job has a pension and good health insurance available in retirement, but I would make quite a bit more money if I worked post-partum. I also don't like the liability involved in school nursing-the judgment calls are yours alone. If I stick with the school job, I would have to do private duty or community health to supplement my income, but I probably could retire at 62 with a pension and just work perdiem at that point. The problem with the post-partum job is that it is in a big city hospital and I would have to commute 34 miles each way. I am 47 years old and I don't know if I could do 12 hour shifts (which I would prefer as it is 1 less day I would have to commute). I worked post partum years ago and I absolutely loved it but I took the school job because it was more convenient for my family. I would appreciate any comments that would help me to make a decision!

The hospital where I live is very small and notorious for being just horrendous all the way around. So even if I went back to PP, my happiness is not guranteed.

What about working PRN, just to feel it out? If school doesnt start back for a couple more months you could get a couple of shifts under your belt to see if you like the people, the shift, etc.
