Missing Med/Surg nursing

Published

In two days I will have been away from Med/surg nursing for a year. I miss it and I am seriously considering finding a job back on a med/surg floor. I never even realized just how much I knew and did until I was exposed to some nurses this past year. Med/Surg is a speciality itself and needs to be appreciated as the basis for learning a little about a lot of aspects of nursing. lots of different disease symptoms and a lot about good old fashioned common sense in patient care. Don't be surprised if you see that I have rejoined the ranks of m/s nurses soon.

I have felt the same way when I was working in other areas of nursing. I am very passionate about being a med-surg nurse and think that nurses that work in this area are VERY skilled and organized. I have worked with some of the BEST nurses in med-surg. As a nurse manager now for a large med-surg floor, I feel very fortunate to be working with a great group of nurses. When the students come to our floor, I share with them about being a med-surg nurse and encourage them to explore this typw of nursing for their career.

I hope we see you re-join the ranks of the med-surg nurses ... but remember, the longer you are away, the more it changes, so make sure you are ready! Good luck.
