Minimum wage for RN-s

Published

Hi All!

Does anybody know anything about the hourly minimum wage for registered nurses? My lawyer called yesterday and said that the DOL sent a letter, the minimum wage is $25,64. Where can I find this on the web?

Thanks

There is no minimum wage law per se, like for working at Burger King, etc. What the ruling states is that the salary offered to you must at least be the average of what if offered to American RNS for doing the same work. Just because you are foreign doesn't mean that you should be paid less. That is why immigration switched to the green card only, and temporary work permits are no longer available for nurses. Nurses were getting taken advantage of with absolutely horrible wages.

Salary ranges for nurses vary between cities, even in the same state. If you were to go to upstate NY, you would find the salaries less. Same thing for CA and all other states. It needs to be in the average for that particular area. If the offer is less, DOL will not give approval, and nothing can be done without that. DOL is the Department of Labor. A letter form them is a requirement if you are applying for an Adjustment of Status in the US.

Dept of Labor is quite strict on this. If I remember correctly, you are in the NYC area, and the average salary there for a new grad is in the $30 range.

What were you offered as a salary and specifically, for what city? You can put in a pm to me if you do not want to post it here.
