Minimal stimulation/IVH protocol

Does anyone have a policy for minimal stimulation/IVH protocol that they would be interested in sharing? Would love to gather some evidence-based information if possible. Thanks.

IVH is the topic of our next journal club. I'm interested too!

We used to have babies on minimal handling protocal, which meant that every other feeding, we handled them, i.e., temp, assessment, changed position, etc. In between feedings, we took VS from the monitor and skin temp from the incubator, and just hooked up their feeding, hopefully w/o actually waking them up. Panties were changed if REALLY necessary, and w/minimal movement.

I'll have to dig 'em out, but there were several studies put out a few years ago, which I used to develop an IVH protocol for my old unit. The articles were titled "Potentially Better Practices for (assessing, implementation) IVH"....or something like that. I think I lost that binder when I moved. I do have the file of our IVH protocol on my PC if anyone wants it.

Wonder if they'd take that up at the new place, Steve. I mean, I know it's EBP and all, but maybe, if you're lucky... :uhoh3:

But that would involve "PAIN MANAGEMENT"!!!!!

Seriously though, I doubt it would work. The culture in the unit is not one of developmental care and pain/stress management, which the EBP protocol is based on. There are too many "old-school" nurses who would ignore it.

sorry for the wait getting a copy of the protocol to those of you who asked... my PC died in protest of my new MacBook.... I'll get 'em out as soon as I sort my stuff out...

Supine first 72 hours of life. Can log roll at 72 hours side to side. Prone after 1 week. Hands on with first assessment and then get vitals off the monitor and bed for every other feeding. Diaper change every other feeding.
