Midwives...

Hello! I am a future midwife and have a few questions about mommy loads...

Do you work in a clinic or hospital setting? What is your patient load and how did you set it?

How do you prepare for vacation?

any midwives care to weigh in here?

Input from WHNP may be helpful too!

I work in a 7 doctor practice with one other midwife.

I am in the office 3 days a week and see midwife and Dr. patients.

I make rounds at the hospital on all PP moms and discharge those who are ready 3 mornings a week.

My partner and I take call usually every week; sometimes every 2 weeks depending. Our midwifery service is small now (but boy look out in Aug and Sept!!)

So we have kind of a "normal" life when not on call; and the potential to not get much sleep when we are (but it is worth it).

Thank you so much for answering! That gives me some idea.

how's the job market for a CNM??? I am currently loving my OB rotation and thought that being a midwife might be a perfect career but when searched online, I didn't find many postings for jobs. How do CNM's find their jobs?
