Hi everyone! :)
I'm going to be taking Microbiology this Winter quarter so I figured I should start a Study/Support thread for this quarter. To start things off, I'm going to repost some awesome sites that a great poster here, AtomicWoman, posted. So props to her!
.....
Here are some different sites for the krebs cycle. My advice would be to look at all of them and see what you can learn from each one. Somewhere along the way, it is likely to all "come together" for you.
http://www.science.smith.edu/departm...231/krebs.html (very nice animation, big overview, not very detailed)
http://incolor.inebraska.com/mcanaday/main.htm (also includes helpful information on the processes that must occur prior to the Krebs Cycle)
http://www.wiley.com/legacy/college/...ns/tca/tca.htm (very nice animation and explanations, more detailed)
http://www.sparknotes.com/biology/ce...e/summary.html (maybe more detail than you need; read this one last)
Hopefully, seeing it lots of times will help it all make sense! And remember that the Krebs Cycle is sometimes called the Citric Acid Cycle!
Good luck in micro!
I have also found some good study guides on Amazon.com and here are the links:
I have this book and I'm reading it and its great - very concise and easy to read:
http://www.amazon.com/Microbiology-Cliffs-Review-Edward-Alcamo/dp/0822053330/ref=pd_sim_b_3
The study guides made by this author are awesome - he makes amazing A&P study guides as well and his questions are based on tests he used to give when he was a teacher in these subjects. You can get this study guide for only $30 at half.com (a great site):
http://www.amazon.com/Microbiology-Study-Guide-Questions-Answers/dp/0971999635/ref=pd_sim_b_5
Another great study guide - the author is the same as the Cliffs Quick review book:
http://www.amazon.com/Schaums-Outline-Microbiology-Edward-Alcamo/dp/0070009678/ref=pd_sim_b_8
Also, here is a link to the open website for the text book my teacher is going to be using - be sure to click all the links and look around because you can download entire powerpoints for each chapter:
http://highered.mcgraw-hill.com/classware/ala.do?isbn=0072994894&alaid=ala_831468&showSelfStudyTree=true
If that link doesn't work, try this one:

Well, I hope this helps everyone get off to a great start! Please try to keep this thread bumped to the top so everyone can find it. Hopefully we will all be successful students in Micro. this quarter!

Good luck in Micro! I won't be taking it until the Spring 09 Semester...so I have about 3 weeks to do a little advance studying...
Is your semester condensed?
Best of luck, let us know how it's going!

Good luck to all! Micro was one of my hardest classes!
WSU, in what ways is micro difficult? What should we look out for??? :)
Hmmmm... How was Micro difficult for me? Well, it's a lot like the memorization from A&P, but it's for stuff that you can't visualize like you can body parts. It might turn out to be easier for you than it was for me, but my best advice to you would be to not stack the deck against yourself (trying to take too heavy a load while you are taking Micro)
GOOD LUCK!!! :-)
Thanks for the best wishes everyone! I'm not taking the class in a condensed format and I'm taking it with a really nice teacher I had last quarter for Bio. 101 so hopefully everything will work out. Thanks for the advice WSUCougerBSN! Nice to see a fellow Washingtonian here on the boards! This is off topic, but I'd love to here what you think of WSU's BSN program and how hard was it for you to get in? I can't wait to be in nursing school like you are and be done with all these pre-reqs. Good luck this quarter everyone! :)
Just to update: My school switched teachers for my Microbiology class so instead of getting a nice teacher I got a teacher that prides herself on being ultra-difficult and stressful. I found out today when I went to my 1st day of class. I feel that microbiology is too hard and too important a class to risk having a teacher that makes things harder then they need to be so I decided to drop the class. I'm hoping to take Microbiology this coming Spring quarter of 09 instead. I wish everyone tons of luck in Microbio. this quarter and hopefully I'll be on the Spring 09 thread for Microbio. Good luck this quarter everyone! :)
