Microbiology 2009

Published

Hi everyone,

I got a D in microbiology this semester and quite depressed too. I tried hard but just couldn't make it. I am trying to take one next semester along with physiology. I know this is too much as my science background is not that strong. But i know this is what I have to do and will try hard. Do you think its possible? This year is just a nightmare for me. Hopefully looking forward for next year ahead. So I was wondering if we could form a group so that we can help each other through taking this class. Thanks a lot.

Regards to everyone.

Well, you may want to try taking more basic biology classes first, if you dont have much of a bio background. Other than that, I hate to break it to you, but if you honestly cant pass micro (a pre-requist to even start the program), then I dont see how you expect to pass nursing school. Also, I've heard students as well as instructors refer to micro/physio in the same semester as the "deadly combo" that most often proves too much for students (that is, its the most difficult combination). Really, I'm sorry, and I don't want to discourage you, but if you're trying your best and you cant make it through the pre-reqs, then maybe should re-evaluate whether nursing is the field for you....

Sorry things didn't work out for you this semester. You may have seen this thread: https://allnurses.com/forums/f198/can-i-do-p-ii-348361.html

The original poster in this thread is going through something similar

with A&P. When you retake it you will have the opportunity to build on what you learned this semester and get a better grade. Next time you should probably also spend some time with a tutor who can help you with things like pinpointing the material you need for tests and how to study effectively and efficiently. Not everyone makes the mark on the first try but if you are determined you will make it eventually.

I wouldn't say that because she didn't pass Micro that she wouldn't do well in nursing school. Micro is a difficult subject and there are lots of NS and nurses who failed on their first atempt and had to take it over.

I would suggest taking it over as you are planning but not with AP. AP also requires lots of memorization and you will have to take a lab with both. I think that that may be too much. I would retake the Micro perhaps with a non-science class. If you are taking the same professor, email him and ask if he will be covering the same material the first week of class. If so, start rereading the basic stuff now, along with the Cellular structure, neurons, electrons, body parts, etc so you can have a jump on it. Start to stay ahead of the class with your reading and read what was covered every other day so that it will be fresh in your mind. seek a tutor and most importantly communicate with your teacher and start now.

Good luck and yes, I believe that you can still be a nurse. :)

I know EXACTLY how you feel. Sping 08' I took Microbiology and Anatomy and physiology 2 together. haha. I got a B in Anatomy and physiology 2 and a D in Microbiology. Like you, I was sooo upset. I took Micro again this semester fall 08' and made an A. I did not realize it then, but the micro teacher I had in the spring was AWFUL, the teacher I had this semster was AMAZING. Teachers really do make a bigg difference. I just can't stress enough to anyone if you want it that bad, don't ever give up. That grade just makes me want to do EVEN better.

I'm taking micro this spring with Anatomy. At my school A & P are divided sepratley. I think its kind of harsh to say that she wont pass nursing school just because she is having a hard time with micro. I've read a lot of people on allnurses say that micro was the hardest class, even including actual nursing school. Good Luck with next semester. If you need help with anything just let me know. I realized that I learn a lot better when I explain it to other people. Even if I don't know the answer, just the process of looking it up and putting it in my own words help. *crosses fingers for next semester*
