Microbiology with Lab

Hey - anyone submit an online microbiology course and get credit for it from the California Board of Nursing (BON)? Microbiology was not a pre-req for my degree. I'm working under a temporary license in CA now but it will run out before I can take a physical microbio class at the community college. I'd love to take it online, but don't want to shell out the cash if it's not going to be accepted. I talked to one person at the BON that said they will accept an online course but everyone else says no it has to have a physical lab.

It depends on the school you are going to attend. They have their rules about whether they will take online or not. Just because BON says yes doesn't mean the school itself will. Check the schools you are looking at the inquire with them because they are the ones accepting which courses they will take.

I would agree with SAjala16. Check with the schools. The schools that I applied to required an in-person lab portion so an online class would not have worked in my case.

Hi Holly,

I am in a similar boat as you with microbiology. Was it difficult to obtain your temporary license without micro biology?

How did you apply for a temporary license? I have the same problem but with a physiology lab.

I took Micro w/o lab through UCLA Extension, then went to nursing school out of state. I had no trouble getting my CA RN license. Try contacting the BON.
