Microbio Pre-Req Emergency!

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hey all of you nurses (or, if you're like me, then hi wannabe-nurses, too)!

I have applied to several accelerated nursing programs, and my plan to fulfill my microbiology prerequisite this spring has fallen through. Now I'm scrambling to find a way and have been exploring several options to meet the deadlines of classes starting this summer for most of my programs!

Does anyone know of any microbiology courses offered over a Winterim (shorter intense 3-4 week term in over December and/or January)? Preferably these courses would be offered in NH, MA, VT, or CT... but at this point any advice is great!

Or, does anyone know of online microbiology courses offered this Spring that don't appear as "online courses" on your transcript (since some schools don't take online courses)? The advisor to one of the schools I've applied to said that as long as it doesn't state it was an online course, then they won't know.

Much thanks and warm wishes from the Northeast!

Well, you could google SUNY distance learning, but I've never heard of a science course offered over winterim. More like a credit-bearing vacation.

A lot of on-line classes don't turn up on transcripts as on-line. I'd call the schools near you and ask.

Thank you! I will look into both suggestions!! After today, I'm hopeful that it will work itself out somehow... (most likely with a lot of pushing and prodding on my part!)

warm wishes,

Ocean County College just put up a totally online Microbiology course taught by their dean, Dr. Jim Brown. OCC does not indicate that any courses were taught online on their transcripts, so its ideal for you.

Another student from Germany whose husband is in the US Army has also signed up. Its perfect for me because I work a lot in a nusing home.

Here is the URL for the Microbiology online Course:

I hope this helps.

jersey nursing girl (and others),

thank you for all of these wonderful suggestions! i was able bend the rules and sign up somewhat illegally for microbio at a community college in my area without the pre-req of anat & phys ii since i will be taking it simultaneously with micro. however, it is great to know i have backup plans!!

best of luck. your patients are lucky to have such compassionate and helpful people at their side.

gratefully,

maybe i'm a little late answering, but you could take it through excelsior (study at your own pace and take the exam when your ready) or through university of rochester's fasttrack courses- also study at your own pace, start when you want and just finish by the end of the term. there is an instructor attached to the course in case you need them.

good luck!

Thnx the information was hepful.
