Methotrexate question

Does anyone know how long you need to wait before trying to conceive after having an ectopic pregnancy treated with Methotrexate? Is there a different length of time if you require two injections?

I'm not an ob nurse, so I'm a little lost when it comes to this type of stuff.

Thanks in advance for your help.:)

From what I have read it's three or 4 months after your HCG level have been at zero, and one study said, 3 mos after last dose of Methotrexate. I could find no diffference in the time given for even more than two injections, one two are the norm. O

ne case I did find where they had done more, but the pt was still taking her prenatal vits, which contained folic acid, which was said to have been the reason she required larger dose of Methotrexate.

I hope this wasn't you this happened to, but if it is, I'm very sorry.

Here is a good article I found:

http://www.womenshealth.org/a/ectopic_pregnancy.htm

personal experience x2 here. you need to hold off conceiving til hcg levels are ZERO, period. after zero and all clear,THEN you ask the doctor about trying again.

and yes, NO folic acid whatsoever. metho blocks folic acid absorption by the conceptus, which in turn ends it. so don't take it til hcg is cleared out. follow up as directed.

i am so sorry for your loss. been there, done that. oh yea i have. i feel for ya.

From what I read, you need to wait 1 yr.

not true

1 year is inaccurate....from my experience.

ask YOUR DOCTOR.

Thank you for your help. My doctor told me we needed to wait 2 months, but everything I've found said 3-6 months in order to build up your folic acid levels.

Thanks again.
