I just srarted working in a Methadone Clinic and the wafers are 40 mg and they are scored. The problem is they are broken by hand. Does anyone else do this? There is a bottle of hand sanitizer to use. I am so uncomfortable doing this. Counting the wafers in front of the patients and breaking them by hand just doesnt seem to be correct.

Why can't they simply provide a pill cutter? That's strange.

I am not nearly as concerned about breaking the wafers by hand as I am counting them in front of the pt. This is, after all a Methadone Treatment Facility!
I wouldn't want them to see any more than the one dose they are getting.
