MEPS

Hey all

Just wondered if they screened for cholesterol and liver enzymes at MEPS? From what I read they feed recruits breakfast the morning of your physical (at least on the enlisted side) so that would mean you would not be fasting for the blood test so seems unlikely they would test for cholesterol? Anyone know the specific tests they run? Due to my love of beer (in moderation) my liver enzymes were elevated once a while back and I don't wanna get hit with a DQ. Anyone with knowledge of the specific labs they draw please let me know. This is my first post here and I don't think i can receive pvt messages. I'm a 30 y.o. male submitting my packet soon, just need to pass MEPS. Othewise very healthy.

also i had an Hep A,B and C test in january and all negative so my doc thinks the elevated liver is just due to drinking beer from time to time and not worrysome at this point.

    If you have had an elevated cholesterol that they have, they will want to retake it at MEPS, but make absolutely sure you fast for a full 12 hours or it won't be accurate. You will get the results back about 10-15 minutes after you have your blood work. Lifting weights and some cardio will help your numbers.

    Sorry not sure if i specified but I'm not over 40, so i shouldn't have to worry about them testing me for cholesterol anyway.

    No, you shouldn't have to worry about that unless they already have a form showing that. Otherwise, you should be good!

    I am only 36, but after I took my physical, I got a "med read" back saying that I need to accomplish a cholesterol, glucose, etc. test. Is this a mistake? Can they order these tests if you're under 40? I'm concerned because my number was over the limit by 2 points, and I'd hate to have to get a waiver, if I'm not even supposed to have the test taken in the first place...

    I went for my commissioning physical when I was 37, and they did a cholesterol, along with a CBC, UDS, UA, urine HCG, alcohol (really?!), and HIV screening. This was for the Army.

    I had to giggle at this! "can they??!!" They can do whatever they want. If you want it, keep jumping through the hoops. Guarantee that if you are in the military, you will jump through hoops and do whatever they tell you until you stop and get out. You just have to smile and keep doing it. (and then redoing it again for someone else!) lol

    Thanks for the responses. The process is quite an ordeal - it seemed easier the first time (I'm prior service going from Air Force to Army). Does anybody know what the numbers they want on the test are? I have my results, but not sure what the cutoffs are for MEPS, so I don't know whether they're good or bad from the army's point of view...
