Med Sheets

So I feel dumb right now....lol. In clincials we got a list of our patients' medications and were given a sheet to write them down on.

The sheet includes columns for med name/dosage/frequency, classification according to action, use/action for THIS patient, nursing implications/nursing actions with/for this patient, and side effects.

Well, I have no idea what is expected in the nursing implications/actions column. I don't remember what the CI said for examples or anything either.

Some of the meds for my pt include aspirin 81mg, citalopram 10mg, furosemide 20mg, etc. Could someone give me some example to go off of please?

    Nursing implications are usually listed in your drug guide. Think about what you may need to monitor when administering a drug. Such as coagulation profiles/INR for someone on coumadin, vitamin K intake/patient education about vitamin K containing food items, monitor for s/s clotting issues (bloody gums, bleeding), etc. Or a patient on a beta blocker you need to monitor apical pulse and blood pressure trends, reduction in symptoms (reduction in angina pain if taken for this indication), renal function and liver function tests

    what do you think you need to monitor, as a nurse, for the drugs you listed? What do you know about these drugs and why they have been prescribed for your assigned patient? What type of patient education may be needed or assessed?
