Can anyone tell me about the nsg program at UGA? I know it is through MCG, but aren't some classes via telemedicine and clinicals are done in/or near Atlanta? Is it better to go to UGA for 2 yrs and then transfer to Augusta for nsg? I'm an 82 BSN graduate of MCG, but my daughter really wants to go to UGA! Thanks for any info you can offer.

I am not a UGA or an MCG grad, but I have lived, worked, and gone to nursing school in Athens and know a little about those schools. UGA's nursing program is actually a pre-nursing program. It is not affiliated with MCG, but many students do apply tp MCG after their 2 years of "pre-nursing" classes at UGA. There is also an MCG satellite campus in Athens where students can get their BSN. It is called SONAT - School of Nursing, AThens. If your daughter was to go to a community college and get her RN (Associates), MCG (and SONAT) have an RN-to_BSN program and an RN-to-MSN program. Hope this helps.

Hey, I actually did what your daughter wants. I went and did my pre-nursing stuff in UGA. It is a very challenging program, I worked my butt off at A &P, Microbiology, and chem. Then I applied to MCG. I chose Augusta because they have so many hospitals there. I have classmates who chose to stay in Athens but some of their clinicals are hours away compared to me (I just have to cross the street and I'm there!). Both campuses are great but I still would choose Augusta if I could do it again because it is such a hospital setting vrs the party town that Athens is. Hope my input helps.
