MCC-GCU MSN Program

Has anyone looked into the MSN program offered to students who have a previous bachelors in another field? I'm highly interested in it. Will hospitals hire someone that has zero nursing experience, has a masters in nursing, a bachelors in psychology but no bsn? I wouldn't expect to start in a higher position because of a MSN... I just want my foot in the door as a RN when I complete the program and don't want to shoot myself in the foot for getting a MSN without a bsn. It saves a ton of time and money.

This will not help you get a floor nurse position and can, in some cases, actually hinder your getting a job. Direct entry MSN programs still leave you as an entry level nurse. So you will not be clinically more prepared for a job then an ADN or BSN level RN. So in that aspect, it won't hurt you or help you. But, there are some facilities that specifically want a BSN prepared nurse. So even though an MSN is a higher level degree, they still want the BSN degree.

So so this will essentially depend on what your future goals are. If you want to eventually get into nurse education or research or the like, then starting with an MSN is just an educational short cut. But if you think you will be happy with floor nursing or nurse leadership, then the MSN won't be as valuable.

What if your ultimate goal is to be a nurse practitioner?

Exactly my question too. I was told you could do a fast track np program. Not sure if it is accurate.
